What will it take?

From the womb to school entry, what will it take for
all children to arrive ready to learn?  Environments,
relationships, experiences, and skills, as well as
seven key ingredients that enrich brain
development. This session will examine all these
essentials so we can effectively partner with
families to support every child's unique
pathway to success.

Kindergarten Readiness Resource for
Parents nears completion.  Feedback
welcome!

A team of educators and community members are
working on a handout to support parents as they
help their children to be "ready for Kindergarten".
The goal is to distribute this to parents around the
time their child turns four.  We welcome community
partners in this endeavor.  Check out the drafts and
provide your feedback by email or call 323-8139.

Spirited Dialogue at Kindergarten
Readiness community conversation
Kindergarten Readiness more than ABCs
45 people from across Carroll County came
together around the topic of Kindergarten
Readiness.  Participants learned how many
different perspectives there are about what
Kindergarten readiness means.

“What can we do as a community to increase
access to pre-school for all children regardless of
income?” was one critical question that came up
repeatedly.  Increasing communication including
visits between pre-schools and Kindergarten staff
was one of many ideas that were sparked.  Press
release

Early Warning! Why Reading by the End of Third
Grade Matters:
A KIDS COUNT Special Report from the Annie E.
Casey Foundation

Many states in the U.S. plan for future prisons by
looking at the number of children not reading at
grade level during 3rd grade? States such as Texas
and California have been so successful using
these numbers that they haven't missed their mark
yet.

$52 trillion - cost of young people not being
successful over the past 25 years.
