What do winning sports teams, strong businesses
and vibrant communities have in common?

Committed teamwork and a shared vision

                   About Carroll County United
This proven approach to community collaboration is intended to build upon the county’s already strong
spirit of working together in order to accomplish even more.  It  involves every sector of the community
including citizens, businesses, civic organizations, educators, non-profits and others.

The purpose of Carroll County United is to support the community in working together to set its own
agenda – to dare the community to aim for how it can be an even better place to live, develop a plan to
collaboratively reach that vision and to work along side the community  to achieve it.
Background:
Carroll County United was started by a group who noticed that there were not a lot of opportunities for
citizens and organizations to work together at a county level and wondered what could be achieved if
there was a way to do so.

In today’s complex world, it takes more than just a single organization, elected official, business or
individual town to move our community forward.  Knowing this, a group of community leaders gathered
in May, 2009 to learn about a new way of thinking that includes a broad cross-section of community
members reaching across traditional boundaries.  The interactive community forums in September
and November of 2009 were the first steps toward building the structure needed to work toward
outcomes that all agree are important to the community’s well-being.
